Senior Center Watch 09-29-13

Stillwater NewsPress

— The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center, 1015 E. 12th Ave., is a pleasant place to spend the fall season for senior citizens, 50 and older. The leaves are falling outside in the park and many activities are happening inside the center.

Unfortunately, flu season comes calling soon. A flu clinic, sponsored by HomeCall, is scheduled 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 14. There is no early sign-up. No appointments will be scheduled. Everyone is seen on a first come, first served basis. Bring a Medicare card for no charge.

More activities to choose from include card games such as duplicate and social bridge, canasta, pitch, Texas Hold’em, and various others games such as dominoes. Practice your shots on the pool and snooker tables or get creative sharing ideas in the painting and craft group. Win prizes playing bingo and enjoy musical tunes every Thursday during music night. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

Get some exercise in a class or on your own using the center’s exercise equipment including a treadmill, weight set and exercise bike. Test your endurance in the free Sit ‘n be Fit class every Tuesday and Thursday morning. Wii interactive games, line dancing and pingpong can get you moving, too.

The Veteran’s Affairs representative will no longer be coming to the Senior Center. He will be at Stillwater’s Workforce Oklahoma, 3006 E. Sixth Ave., from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

Stop by to pick up an October calendar of events. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and  5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. If you are interested in joining a social or duplicate bridge group, then call 405-747-8080 or leave your name and number with a staff member.

Champions for competitive games last week were social bridge winners Treca Baer, first, and Mary Thomas, second.

Duplicate bridge winning partners were Ca-mille Johnston and Meg Kletke, first, and Lucy Robinson and Penny Sizemore, second.

The Texas Hold’em champion was Chestine Crane.
