Senior Center Watch 10-27-13

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a men’s 8-ball pool tournament at 1 p.m. Thursday. All senior men are welcome to participate. Bring your own pool stick or use one from the center and join the fun competition. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. The facility is closed on weekends

Monday: A women’s pool playing time is set up for 9:30 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Check out the fun they have while practicing pool shots. An artist’s group comes in at the same time. They bring in their own supplies and help each other with ideas and questions they might have about their artwork. Other crafters are welcome to bring their projects and join the group. The center has an exercise room with exercise bikes and a weight set for senior use. The afternoon crowd arrives around 12:30 p.m. to play games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving.

Tuesday: A free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit, is offered to seniors, age 50 and over. The exercises are low impact, but good for strength and flexibility. Some are done while sitting and others by standing next to a chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands and bouncing balls during the 45-minute workout. Afterward, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A pingpong table is available for use. In the afternoon, games include canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving.

Wednesday: Starting at 9:30 a.m., women pool players start gathering for more rounds of 8-ball. Also, try the Wii interactive games, a game of pingpong or the exercise equipment. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m., which include canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, and pool/snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a missing piece. The movie “Touch Back” will be shown at 2 p.m.

Thursday: It is exercise time again starting at 9:30 a.m. The free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class gives everyone a good 45-minute workout. After class, Wii games, pingpong or line dancing are available. Come check it out. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. Try a game of canasta or pool/snooker and at 2 p.m. join in the fun time of bingo.

Friday: It is pool time again for senior women. They welcome new players, so come join the friendly competition beginning at 9:30 a.m. Also, the artists meet again at the same time. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Afternoon games include canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool/snooker.

Champions for various games held last week were: social bridge winners; Sarah Habinak, first; and Lynn Fent, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners Terry Miller and Camille Johnston, first; and Al Perry and Lionel Raff, second. A coed pool tournament was held at the center and Jack Ventris took first place.
