Spend the hot summer days at senior center

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a good place to stay cool during the summer time.

The center offers many activities for seniors 50 and over. New activities have been added, starting this month. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information.

Make sure to pick up a June calendar of events and check out the additions and changes that have been made in the scheduling of classes.

The Walk in the Park event got off to a good start and will continue all summer. Senior participants can come to the center and check out how they can earn a free T-shirt by walking in Couch Park.

You can still check out the water aerobics class that meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Stillwater Municipal Pool in Couch Park. Each session is $2 and is paid at the pool. Swimsuits are required.

Another day of bingo has also been added to the calendar. It will now be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2 p.m. Center hours are Monday through Friday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday 6-8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends.

Monday: There are several activities to participate in starting Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. Check out the free exercise class Sit ‘n Be Fit. The class uses a chair for each person. A few exercises are done while sitting and some while standing by their chair. It is a good workout that utilizes stretchy bands, bouncing balls and hand weights. Women pool players get in several rounds of friendly games of 8-ball. Bring your pool stick or use one from the center and test your skills. A painting/crafting class also meets. It is a social time to get together and get creative at a canvas or any other craft you want to bring in to work on while sharing ideas. At 10:30 a.m., a group of line dancers practice. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. Bridge and canasta are popular card games along with pool/snooker and puzzle-solving.

Tuesday: If you like to bowl, check out the Wii bowling that is popular on Tuesdays and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. This is played on a gaming system in which each player has their own controls. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes and a weight set are available for use. Water aerobics meets at the Stillwater municipal pool at 12:30 p.m. In the afternoon, games include canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pool/snooker and jigsaw puzzles. Bingo will now be played on Tuesday afternoons at 2 p.m. in addition to the regular Thursday time.

Wednesday: Exercise class, women’s pool and line dancing take place during the morning at 9:30 a.m. Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and women’s pool begin at 9:30 a.m. Stay and practice line dancing at 10:30 a.m. In the afternoon, there are games of canasta, pool and snooker along with an afternoon movie at 2 p.m. The movie for this week is a comedy titled “Undercover Blues.” Also, a coed, 8-ball pool tournament will take place at 1 p.m. All seniors are invited to try out their pool shooting skills in the competition.

Thursday: Wii play begins at 9:30 a.m. and at 12:30 p.m. water aerobics meets again. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool and snooker. At 2 p.m. a game of bingo takes place. Don’t miss out on the fun. At 6 p.m., musicians tune up their instruments to play country music.
