Free blood pressure check scheduled Monday

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is offering free blood pressure checks at 1 p.m. Monday. The service is provided by May’s Home Call Home Health.

Lois Jackson, a certified massage therapist, will provide free hand and foot massages to senior participants beginning at 10:30 a.m. Monday.

No appointments are needed for either one of the services.

The center offers many activities for seniors 50 and over including competitive games. Champions last week were social bridge winners Cloyann Fent, first, and Lynn Fent, second. Duplicate bridge winners were Al Perry and Lionel Raff, first, and Charles Foreman and Murna Raff, second. Wii bowling champions were Jean Hatcher, first, and Lynn Duncan, second.

Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. to pick up a free calendar of events. Make note of the additions and changes that have been made this month to the scheduled activities. The center is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. Call 405-747-8080 for more information.

Event highlights this week include:

Monday: A free exercise class, women’s eight-ball pool, a painters/crafters group, and line dancing are your choice of activities for Monday morning. Doors open at 9:30 a.m.

The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class uses a chair for each person. A few exercises are completed while sitting and some while standing by their chair. It is a good workout that utilizes stretchy bands, bouncing balls and hand weights. Women pool players get in several rounds of friendly competitive games of eight-ball, also. Bring your pool stick or use one from the center and test your skills. A painting/crafting class also meets. It is a social time to get together and get creative at a canvas or any other craft you want to bring in to work on while sharing ideas. At 10:30 a.m., a group of line dancers practice some boot scootin’ moves. Check it out and get a powerful workout while having a blast!

The massage therapist, Lois Jackson, will also be at the center at 10:30 a.m. to offer some relaxing hand or foot massages and maybe a neck massage. This is offered on a first come, first serve basis.

Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. Bridge and canasta are popular card games played along with pool/snooker and puzzle solving. The free blood pressure checks will start at 1 p.m.

Tuesday: The center’s Wii game system comes out Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Wii bowling is a popular game of the seniors. Each player is in control of his own game by holding the hand controller and trying to make strikes just like at a real bowling alley. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too.

Water aerobics meets at the Stillwater Municipal pool at 12:30 p.m. It is great exercise, and only $2 per session. In the afternoon, games include canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pool/snooker and jigsaw puzzle solving. Bingo players also meet at 2 p.m.

Wednesday: Exercise class, women’s pool, and line dancing all take place during the morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and women’s pool begins at 9:30 a.m. Afterward, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing at 10:30 a.m. In the afternoon, games of canasta, pool and snooker are played along with an afternoon movie at 2 p.m. The movie for this week is a comedy, titled, “Delivery Man.”

Thursday: Wii play begins at 9:30 a.m. and at 12:30 p.m. water aerobics meets again. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool and snooker. A coed, eight-ball pool tournament will take place at 1 p.m. All seniors are invited to try out their pool shooting skills in the competition. At 2 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. Don’t miss out on the fun.

Starting at 6 p.m., musicians tune up their instruments to make some good toe-tappin’ country music. Come enjoy the music!

Friday: It’s the end of the week, but there’s still a lot of fun activities left to do such as women’s pool, exercise class, and a painting/crafting class all meeting up at 9:30 a.m. If you would like some more exercise, stay after the exercise class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30 a.m. They really get to moving and can work up a sweat while having fun. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. and consist of canasta, and pool or snooker.
