Senior Center Watch 12-02-12

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers many fun activities to keep participants, age 50 and over, busy. Stop by 1015 E. 12th and pick up a schedule of activities. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. Call 405-747-8080 if you are interested in joining a social or duplicate bridge group or for more information on any activities offered.

Monday: Pool balls start falling into pockets at 9:30 a.m. as the women get out their pool sticks. A painting group arrives about the same time and brings paints and brushes to show some creative skills on canvases. Afternoon activities start around 1 p.m. including bridge, canasta, pool, snooker, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

Tuesday: The month of December has begun which can mean extra calories with holiday treats so think about a free exercise class called Sit ‘n Be Fit offered at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are completed while sitting and some are executed while standing by a chair. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and pingpong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as duplicate bridge, dominoes, canasta, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker, and pool. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs visits from 1 to 2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork pertaining to veterans assistance. No appointment is needed.

Wednesday: Activities begin at 9:30 a.m. Women’s pool is popular. A Wii interactive game set and a pingpong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment which includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine are available, too. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. including canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The adventure movie, “Captain America,” will be shown at 2 p.m.

Thursday: Come exercise again with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class   meeting at 9:30 a.m. Afterward, play some Wii games or pingpong.   A group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to the music. At 1 p.m. afternoon games such as canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving start. At 2 p.m., bingo is called. Don’t miss out on the good times. Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music.

Friday: The women rack up the pool balls at 9:30 a.m. The painting group brings paints and brushes and shares ideas with each other. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a pingpong table or Wii player. During the afternoon, enjoy games of cards, pool, snooker, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

Last week’s winners of bridge were Barbara Geiser, first, and Louie Geiser, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were Al Perry and Lionel Raff, first, with Murna Raff and Soham El-Sharif tying Treca Baer and Norma Burk for second. Texas Hold’em champion for the week was Lula Davis.
