Senior Center Watch 12-22-13

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Wednesday in observance of Christmas. There will be no music night on Thursday. Remember with the weather changes coming, if the Stillwater Public Schools are closed, the Senior Activity Center will also be closed. Holiday hours will vary but regular operating hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night.

The center offers a warm place to come and enjoy various activities such as card games, exercise class, art class, pool and snooker, bingo, line dancing, Wii games, exercise equipment, movies and a music night. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. for a calendar of events or call 405-747-8080 for more information.

Champions for competitive games last week were social bridge winners, Norma Burk, first, and Marge Reynolds, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were Charles Foreman and Carolyn Schwabe, first, and Laurie Schlobohm and Teresa Tanner, second. Lula Mae Davis was the Texas Hold’em champion for the week. Fred Seamans won the men’s pool tournament.

Highlighted activities include:

Monday: Women pool players take up their pool sticks for some fun rounds of eight-ball starting at 9:30 a.m. An artist’s group comes in at the same time. They bring in their own supplies and help each other with ideas and questions they might have about their artwork. Other crafters are welcome to bring their projects and join the group. The center has an exercise room with bicycles and a weight set for senior use. The afternoon crowd arrives around 12:30 p.m. to play games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool/snooker and jigsaw puzzle solving.

Tuesday: Need a quick workout before the holiday? Try out the free exercise class, Sit ‘n Be Fit, at 9:30 a.m. This class is offered every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Exercises are low impact and good for strength and flexibility. Some are done while sitting and others are completed by standing next to a chair. Afterward, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. In the afternoon, games include canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jigsaw puzzle solving.

Wednesday: The center is closed.

Thursday: Work off those extra calories by joining the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. For more exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group meeting at 10:30 a.m. The group gets moving and works up a sweat while having fun. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. At 2 p.m. there is bingo.

Friday: The center opens at 9:30 a.m. and the women pool players are waiting at the door ready to practice their pool shots. The painting group is also there with paints, brushes and canvases. Exercise equipment is also available. Games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool/snooker begin in the afternoon.
