Senior Center Watch 01-12-13

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center extends a warm welcome to all senior citizens in the community with many enjoyable activities, including card games, exercise class, art class, pool and snooker, bingo, line dancing, Wii games, exercise equipment, movies and a music night. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. to pick up a January calendar of events.

Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. With any extreme weather changes, remember, if the Stillwater Public Schools are closed then the Senior Activity Center will also be closed. Call 405-747-8080 for more information.

Monday: Pool balls are falling every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings as the senior women pool players take aim at the cue ball starting at 9:30 a.m. An artist’s group also arrives about the same time ready to get creative with their paints. They bring in their own supplies and help each other with ideas and questions about their artwork. Other crafters are welcome to bring projects and join the group, too. The center has an exercise room with bicycles and a weight set for senior use. The afternoon crowd arrives around 12:30 p.m. to play games from bridge and canasta to dominoes, along with jigsaw puzzle solving.

Tuesday: To get started on any New Year’s resolutions of getting in shape, check out the free exercise class, “Sit ‘n Be Fit” at 9:30 a.m. This class is offered every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The exercises are low impact, and good for strength and flexibility. Some are completed while sitting and others are executed by standing next to a chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands and bouncing balls during the 45-minute workout. Afterward, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. This will get you a really good workout!  In the afternoon, join in the many games.

Wednesday: Bring your pool stick or use one from the center and join the women pool players for some friendly competitive games. The fun starts at 9:30 a.m. Wii games are played on Wednesday morning at the same opening time. Then, in the afternoon games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, pool and snooker are played along with an afternoon movie, at 2 p.m. The movie for this week is a drama based on a true event titled  “Parkland.”  Join the pool players in a coed pool tournament at 1 p.m.

Thursday: A free “Sit ‘n Be Fit” exercise class is offered at 9:30 a.m. This class will give you a good toning workout for your muscles. If you would like some more exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30 a.m. They really get moving and can work up a sweat while having fun. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. Bingo starts at 2 p.m. The doors open again at 5:30 p.m. with music night starting at 6 p.m.

Friday: As soon as the doors open at 9:30 a.m., women pool players and the painting group will arrive, anxious to get started at the pool tables and at their canvases. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Games of canasta, Texas Hold’em and pool and snooker begin in the afternoon.
