Senior Center Watch 03-17-13

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will offer neck and shoulder massages by licensed massage therapist, Paul Hirsch of Magic Touch at 1 p.m. Thursday. No appointment is needed.

Trained AARP volunteer income tax preparers are providing tax help 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday until April 15. No appointments are necessary with service first-come, first-served. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification.

Sign up now for the defensive driving class provided by Meridian Technology Center at 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 25. Check with your insurance agent to see if this class qualifies for discounts on your vehicle insurance. A One Book, One Community book review discussion about Woody Guthrie’s “Bound for Glory” is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. March 28.  Stop by 1015 E. 12th to pick up a March calendar of events. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. Call 405-747-8080 for more information on activities offered including joining a social or duplicate bridge group.

Monday: Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for all the fun activities of the day.

Women’s pool time is full of competitive play and fellowship. A painting class comes in at the same time. They bring their own supplies and share ideas and expertise. Exercise equipment available includes a treadmill, weight set and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games such as bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

Tuesday: Get in shape with the free “Sit ‘n Be Fit” exercise class  9:30 to about 10:15 a.m. Hand weights, stretch bands and bouncing balls are all utilized during the 45 minute workout. Afterward, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games.

A Veteran’s Affairs representative visits from 1 to 2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

Wednesday: Pool balls start rolling again as the women pool players take aim at the cue ball at 9:30 a.m. The movie, “People Like Us” will be shown at 2 p.m.

Thursday: The free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class meets again at 9:30 a.m. After class, you can play some Wii games or pingpong. Income tax help continues from 9:30 a.m. to noon. At 1 p.m., afternoon games such as  canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker and puzzle solving are played. At 2 p.m., bingo is called.

 Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians start some good ol’ country tunes at 6 p.m.

Friday: Morning activities include women’s pool playing and the painting group getting creative on their canvases.

Last week’s bridge winners were Orlean Hunter, first, and Dollie McClary, second.

The duplicate bridge winning partners were  Al Perry and Lionel Raff, first, and Murna Raff and Betty Lowrey, second. Jean Hatcher was the grand champion of Texas Hold’em.

Jack Ventris won the men’s pool tournament.
