Senior Center Watch 03-10-13

 The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers many fun activities to get everyone involved. Stop by 1015 E. 12th to pick up a March calendar of events. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. The center is also a place to come receive free income tax help. Trained AARP volunteer income tax preparers are providing assistance through April 15. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday. No appointments are necessary. Service is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification. Call 405-747-8080 for more information on activities offered including joining a social or duplicate bridge group. Sign up now for the defensive driving class provided by the Meridian Technology  Center 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 25. Call for more information or come by to sign up. Talk to your insurance agent about how this class could get you a discount on vehicle insurance.

Monday: It is pool time for women pool players starting at 9:30 a.m.  A painting class comes in at the same time. They bring their own supplies and share each others ideas and expertise. Tax help is also scheduled, 9:30 a.m. to noon. Exercise equipment available includes a treadmill, weight set and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games such as bridge, canasta, dominoes and pool or snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

Tuesday: Come check out the free exercise class that is held every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9:30 to about 10:15 a.m.  Afterward, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. Income tax assistance continues during the morning. A Veterans Affairs representative visits from 1 to 2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

Wednesday: Women pool players get out their pool sticks again to practice eight ball strategies beginning at 9:30 a.m. A Wii interactive game set and a pingpong table are also available for use. Tax preparers work on taxes 9:30 a.m. to noon. The  Academy Award winning dramatic movie, “Argo,” will be shown at 2 p.m.

Thursday: Test your flexibility and tone up with“Sit ‘n Be Fit” class that meets at 9:30 a.m. Income tax help continues from 9:30 a.m. to noon. At 2 p.m., bingo is called. Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music.  

Friday: Morning activities include women’s pool playing and the painting group getting creative on their canvases. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1 p.m.

Last week’s bridge winners were Dolly McClary, first, and Mallory Owen, second.  The duplicate bridge group did not meet due to the center being closed for inclement weather. Allen Shields and Chestine Crane won Texas Hold ’em. Jack Ventris was the men’s pool tournament champion.
