— The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is celebrating April birthdays with a potluck luncheon at noon Friday. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3 per person.

Time is about to run out for free income tax help. Trained AARP volunteer income tax preparers are available at the center to assist with tax preparation through April 15. Tax volunteers provide services 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday. No appointments are necessary.  Assistance is first-come, first-serve. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification.

Stop by 1015 E. 12th to pick up an April calendar of events. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. Call 405-747-8080 if you are interested in joining a social or duplicate bridge group or for more information on any activities. A Thursday afternoon social bridge group is trying to start back up so, if you are interested, in playing leave your name and phone number with the center’s staff.

Monday: Mornings are full of women pool players and artists. The women have a great time challenging each other’s shots and the painting class members enjoy checking out each other’s art skills. Exercise equipment is available including a treadmill, weight set and exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games such as bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool and snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

Tuesday: Check out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. Exercises are completed sitting with some movements executed standing by your chair. Hand weights, stretch bands and bouncing balls are all utilized during the 45-minute workout. Afterward, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A pingpong table is available for use.

A Veteran’s Affairs representative visits from 1 to 2:45 p.m. offering help with any questions or paperwork pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

Wednesday: Pool balls are scattered around as the women practice their shots at 9:30 a.m. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. including canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. The dramatic movie, “Life of Pi,” will be shown at 2 p.m.

Thursday: Sit ‘n Be Fit begins at 9:30 a.m. At 2 p.m., bingo is called. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians start some good ol’ country tunes at 6 p.m.

Friday: The birthday potluck luncheon is at noon. After lunch, check out the afternoon games of cards, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, pool and snooker.

Last week’s bridge winners were Norma Burk, first, and Louie Geiser, second.

The duplicate bridge winning partners were Lionel Raff and Al Perry. Murna Raff, Carolyn Schwabe, Jane Anderson and Lew Taylor all tied for second.  

Chestine Crane and Paul Hirsch were the Texas Hold’em winners.
