Senior Center Watch 10-20-13

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is hosting a public election forum about the upcoming vote on Propositions 1-3. Mayor John Bartley, City Manager Dan Galloway, Police Capt. Randy Dickerson and Fire Chief Tom Bradley will discuss the issues at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night.

Champions for competitive games last week were social bridge winners Norma Burk, first, and Lynn Fent, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were Al Perry and Lionel Raff, first, and Murna Raff and Betty Lowry, second. Texas Hold’em champions were Chestine Crane and Lula Mae Davis.

Activities this week include:

Monday: The women test their eight ball skills at 9:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Bring your pool stick or use one provided at the center.

An artist’s group comes in at the same time. They bring in their own supplies and help each other with ideas and questions they have about their artwork.

Other crafters bring their projects and join the group, too.

The center has an exercise room with exercise bikes and a weight set. The afternoon crowd arrives around 12:30 p.m. to play games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving.

Tuesday: Seniors, age 50 and over, can participant in the free exercise class, Sit ’n Be Fit. The exercises are low impact. Some are completed while sitting and others by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands and bouncing balls during the 45- minute workout.

Afterward, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A pingpong table is available for use. The Veteran’s Affairs representative will no longer be coming to the Senior Center. He is now at Workforce Oklahoma’s Stillwater office, 3006 E. Sixth Ave., from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays. The public election forum with city officials starts at 2 p.m.

Wednesday: The movie, “Lake Effects,” will be shown at 2 p.m.

Thursday: Increase endurance and flexibility by trying out the free Sit ’n Be Fit exercise class offered from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. Bingo is at 2 p.m.

Friday: New players are needed in the women’s pool group at 9:30 a.m. Artists also meet at 9:30 a.m. Afternoon games include canasta, Texas Hold’em and pool/snooker.
