Choose your pleasure at Senior Activity Center

Competitive game winners last week at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center included duplicate bridge champions Meg Kletke and Carolyn Schwabe, first, and Norma Burk and Treca Baer, second.

The center offers many activities for seniors 50 and over. You can participate in card games, exercise class, art class, pool and snooker, bingo, line dancing, Wii games, exercise equipment, movies and a music night.

Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. and pick up a calendar of events. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-8 p.m. Thursday for music night. Remember, with the weather changes coming, if the Stillwater Public Schools are closed then the Senior Activity Center will also be closed. Call 405-747-8080 for more information.

Starting Monday, free income tax preparation begins at the center. AARP trained income tax preparers will offer free tax assistance every Monday through Thursday until April 15. Hours for tax assistance are 9:30 a.m. to noon. No appointments are necessary. Bring last year’s tax return if possible and all other necessary information and identification. Other highlights for the week include:

Monday: A women’s pool playing group and a painting/arts and crafts crew start at 9:30 a.m. The pool players get exercise walking around the tables and stretching for just the right shot. The artists like to get together and share their skills and enjoy the social time spent with each other. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes and a weight set are available for use, too. The afternoon brings out bridge and canasta players, along with more pool shooters.

Tuesday: The free exercise class, Sit ‘n Be Fit, starts at 9:30 a.m. The class offers a low-impact, 45-minute workout that helps strengthen your muscles. Some exercises are completed while sitting and others are executed while standing next to a chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands and bouncing balls. Stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. This will get you a really good workout. In the afternoon, games include canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jigsaw puzzle solving.

Wednesday: The women get out their pool sticks again after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. Wii games are played at the same opening time. In the afternoon, games of canasta, Texas Hold’em and pool/snooker are played, along with an afternoon movie at 2 p.m. The film is “The Butler,”  a drama based on historic events.

Thursday: AARP income tax help continues from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Get in shape by joining the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered at 9:30 a.m. The class will provide a good stretching and toning for your body. If you would like some more exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30 a.m.  In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. At 2 p.m., a game of bingo takes place.

Friday: Pool playing skills are practiced again by the women starting at 9:30 a.m. The painters will be at it again, also. Bring your painting supplies and get creative. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool/snooker begin in the afternoon.
