Senior Center Watch 09-30-12

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will host flu shots provided by Mays Home Care from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

There is no charge with your Medicare Part B card. Please bring your Medicare card with you.There will be a $25 charge for all others without Medicare. A sign-up sheet is available at the center.

Seniors, 50 and older are welcome to join the center. Hours are: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up an October calendar.

Monday: Women’s pool playing and painting class are popular activities starting at 9:30 a.m. Bring your pool stick or use one from the center and enjoy some fun competition. The oil/acrylic painters bring their own supplies and exchange creative ideas with each other. Afternoon activities start around 1 p.m. which include: bridge, canasta, pool, snooker, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

Tuesday: A free Sit’ n Be Fit exercise class is offered every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are provided for each person.  Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun. You are welcome to come kick up your heels with them around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and ping pong are always available. Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Texas Hold’em, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.

Wednesday: The women get out their pool sticks again for some fun rounds of pool playing. A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment which includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine are available, also. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker.

Thursday: Limber up with the free Sit ’n Be Fit class which meets at 9:30 a.m. Afterward, Wii Fit is available to use. At 1 p.m. you can join in games of canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pitch, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving. At 2 p.m. bingo is called. Thursday evenings the Center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Music Night. The musicians tune up their instruments and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m.

Friday: The women pool players and the painting class members meet up again at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment and Wii games are available for use, too. Afternoon games include canasta, pool, snooker, pitch, dominoes, and a puzzle.      

Last week’s winners of bridge were: Treca Baer, first; and Barbara Geiser, second. Other bridge winners were: Lew Taylor, first, and Ina Lee Abels, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Betty Lowrey and Jane Anderson; first; and Lew Taylor and Teresa Tanner, second; Texas Hold’em winners of the week were: Lula Mae Davis and Lisa Parcell. A men’s pool tournament was held and Frank Berry was the champion.
