Senior Center Watch 02-24-13

Highlights at the city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center for the week are a free vision screening clinic 2 p.m. Tuesday. Triad Eye Medical Clinic will conduct screenings. No appointments are required.

Trained AARP volunteer income tax preparers provide tax assistance at the center until April 15. Tax assistance hours are 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday. No appointments are necessary. Tax assistance help is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification.

Meridian Technology Center is teaching a defensive driving class 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 25. This class could get you a discount on your insurance so check with your agent. Call for more information or come by to sign up.

Stop by 1015 E. 12th to pick up a calendar of events. Call 405-747-8080 for more information on activities offered or to join a social or duplicate bridge group. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night.

Monday: The center opens for morning activities at 9:30 a.m. Women pool players get out their pool sticks and rack up the balls for some good times and fellowship. A group of artists comes in with their art supplies and canvases to spend some time together expressing their creativity. Tax help is scheduled 9:30 a.m. to noon. Exercise equipment available includes a treadmill, weight set and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games such as bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

Tuesday: Tone up your muscles with the free exercise class 9:30 to about 10:15 a.m. A pingpong table is always available for use. Income tax assistance continues during the morning. A Veteran’s Affairs representative visits 1 to 2:45 p.m. providing help with any questions or paper work pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed. Triad Eye Medical Clinic will conduct vision screenings at 2 p.m.

Wednesday: Women pool players practice eight-ball strategies beginning at 9:30 a.m. Tax preparers work on taxes 9:30 a.m. to noon. The animated movie, Madagasgar 3 – Europe’s Most Wanted, will be shown at 2 p.m.

Thursday: Join the free “Sit ‘n Be Fit” exercise class at 9:30 a.m.   for a 45-minute workout. A men’s in-house pool tournament will be held at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m., bingo is called. Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians start some good ol’ country tunes at 6 p.m.

Friday: Women pool players and the painting group return at 9:30 a.m. Last week’s bridge winners were Dollie McClary, first, and Don Wilson, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were  Lionel Raff and Al Perry, first, and Penny Sizemore and Lucy Robinson, second. The Texas Hold’em group met and the winners for the week were Betty Shields and Carol Cross. Jack Ventris was the champion of the coed pool tournament.
