Senior Center Watch 10-07-12

— The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a pot-luck luncheon on noon Friday to celebrate October birthdays of the senior participants. Just bring a food dish to share or $3 per person. Seniors, 50 and older are welcome to join the activity center. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up an October calendar of events. If you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, please call for more information.

Monday: After the doors open at 9:30 a.m., women’s pool playing and a painting class get under way.  The oil/acrylic painters bring their own supplies and exchange creative ideas with each other. Afternoon activities start at 1 p.m. including bridge, canasta, pool, snooker, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

Tuesday:  Starting at 9:30 a.m. exercisers gather for a free “Sit ‘n Be Fit” exercise class offered every Tuesday and Thursday morning. Chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are executed while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated into the exercises for an extensive workout. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun. You are welcome to come kick up your heels with them around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and ping pong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as duplicate bridge, Texas Hold’em, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs visits from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. Wednesday: Women’s pool time begins at 9:30 a.m. A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table also are available for use. Exercise equipment includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. which include canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The comedic dramatic film, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” will be shown at 2 p.m.

Thursday: Time to get some exercise, come join the free “Sit’n Be Fit” class which meets at 9:30 a.m. Afterward, Wii Fit is available to use.  At 1 p.m., you can join in games of canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pitch, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving. At 2 p.m. bingo is called. Thursday evenings the activity center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for music night. Songs start at 6 p.m.

Friday: The women pool players and the painting class members meet again at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment and Wii games are available for use. At noon, the October potluck birthday lunch will be held.

Last week’s winners of bridge were: Treca Baer, first, and Penny Sizemore, second. Other bridge winners were Lew Taylor, first and Ina Lee Abels, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were Lionel Raff and Al Perry, first and Camille Johnston and Terry Miller, second. Texas Hold’em winners of the week were Lula Mae Davis and Betty Shields. Larry Leonard was the champion of the coed pool tournament.
