Senior Center Watch 04-26-14

Check out programs at Senior Activity Center

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers many activities for seniors 50 and over. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a calendar of events when you stop by. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. The facility is closed on weekends.

Monday: The women pool players would like for you to join them in some fun games of 8-ball every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:30 a.m. You can bring your pool stick or use one from the center. An art class also comes in during the same time. They bring their own supplies and help each other with ideas as needed. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes and a weight set are available for use. The afternoon brings out bridge, canasta players and pool shooters.

Tuesday: Check out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise program. The center provides this class every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. It offers a low-impact, 45-minute workout that helps strengthen and tone your muscles. Some exercises are done while sitting and others are done while standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights. Stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. In the afternoon, games include canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jigsaw puzzle solving.

Wednesday: The women pool players practice their pool shots again beginning at 9:30 a.m. Wii bowling is played on Wednesday morning at the same time. In the afternoon, games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, pool and snooker are played along with an afternoon movie at 2 p.m. The movie for this week is a dramatic action movie titled “White House Down.”

Thursday: The free exercise class called Sit ‘n Be Fit offered at the center at 9:30 a.m. can help you test your endurance and strengthen your muscles. If you would like some more exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30 a.m. They really get to moving. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. At 2 p.m. a game of bingo begins.

Friday: Friday morning activities are women’s pool playing and painting in the art class. These begin at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m.

Penny Sizemore won first in social bridge and Jean Herndon was second. Lionel Raff and Al Perry won duplicate bridge and Terry Miller and Camille Johnston were second. Dennis Morrow had the high score in Wii bowling and Evelyn Smith placed second.

  • Senior Center Watch 07-05-14

    The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a defensive driving class, Vehicle Accident Prevention, sponsored by Meridian Technology Center. This class could get you a discount on your vehicle insurance, so check it out with your insurance provider.
    The class will take place Wednesday from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. An hour lunch break will be taken. Call or stop by to sign up.
