Stillwater Senior Activity Center celebrates birthdays

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate participant’s May birthdays on Friday at noon with a potluck luncheon.

The center offers many activities for seniors 50 and over. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. You will notice some changes in the scheduling of classes, starting Monday. So, please take note that the exercise class will now take place three days a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:30 a.m., with line dancing following at 10:30 a.m. Wii play will now be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m.

Center hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday 6-8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends.

Monday: Changes in scheduling of classes start Monday with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class meeting at 9:30 a.m. The women pool players will still be getting together on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. An art class also comes in during the same time. Line dancing will also take place after exercise class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:30 a.m. The afternoon brings out bridge, canasta players and pool shooters. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1 p.m.

Tuesday: Wii play is now being held at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes and a weight set are available.

Wednesday: Sit ‘n Be Fit begins at 9:30 a.m. Stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. The women pool players practice their pool shots again beginning at 9:30 a.m. In the afternoon, there are games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, pool and snooker along with a 2 p.m. movie. The movie for this week is a dramatic movie “The Book Thief.”

Thursday: Another day of Wii playing has been added to the calendar. Wii bowling is the game to play beginning at 9:30 a.m. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. At 2 p.m., a game of bingo takes place.

Friday: Another day of exercise has also been added to the calendar. The free exercise class called Sit ‘n Be Fit is offered at the center at 9:30 a.m. Stay after class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30 a.m. Other popular Friday morning activities are women’s pool playing and painting in the art class. These begin at 9:30 a.m. The potluck birthday luncheon will begin at noon. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3 per person

Jean Herndon won first in social bridge while Lynn Fent placed second. Lionel and Murna Raff won in duplicate bridge and Terry Miller and Camille Johnston placed second. Dennis Morrow won in Wii bowling and Fred Seamans won the men’s pool tournament.

  • Senior Center Watch 07-05-14

    The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a defensive driving class, Vehicle Accident Prevention, sponsored by Meridian Technology Center. This class could get you a discount on your vehicle insurance, so check it out with your insurance provider.
    The class will take place Wednesday from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. An hour lunch break will be taken. Call or stop by to sign up.
