Senior Center Watch 05-10-14

Senior Center celebrates participants 80 and over

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will honor its participants who are 80 years old and over with a reception at 2 p.m. May 16. Participants should be receiving an invitation in the mail.

Paige Peterson will be at the center from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday for Medicare medication assistance.

 The center offers many activities for seniors 50 and over. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a May calendar of events when you stop by. You will notice some changes in the scheduling of classes that began May 5. The exercise class will now take place three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:30 a.m., with line dancing following at 10:30 a.m. Wii play will now be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. Look for more additions coming next month, including water aerobics at the city pool starting at 12:30 p.m. June 3.

 Center hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-8 p.m. Thursday for music night. The facility is closed on weekends.

Monday: Changes in scheduling of classes has begun with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class meeting at 9:30 a.m. The women pool players will still be getting together on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:30 a.m.

Tuesday: Wii players have adjusted to the new day and time change that is now being held at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. This is played on a gaming system with each player holding the controls. Wii bowling is the popular game being played now. Exercise equipment includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes and a weight set.

Wednesday: Sit ‘n Be Fit begins at 9:30 a.m. The class offers a low impact, 45-minute workout that helps strengthen and tone up your muscles. Stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. The movie for this week is a comedy titled “The In-Laws.”

Thursday: The fun begins with Wii bowling at 9:30 a.m. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool and snooker. At 2 p.m. there is bingo.

Friday: The exercise class is enjoying the extra day of exercise during the week. The free class is offered at 9:30 a.m. The class can help you test your endurance and strengthen your muscles. It will give you a good workout. If you would like some more exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30 a.m.

Lynn Fent won the social bridge competition and Mary Thomas placed second.

Lionel and Murna Raff won in duplicate bridge and Summer Goebel and Audrey Harrison came in second. Louella Harshman had the high score in Wii bowling while Lynn Duncan was second. Vic Berryman won the men’s pool tournament.

    The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a defensive driving class, Vehicle Accident Prevention, sponsored by Meridian Technology Center. This class could get you a discount on your vehicle insurance, so check it out with your insurance provider.
    The class will take place Wednesday from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. An hour lunch break will be taken. Call or stop by to sign up.
