Defensive driving class featured at Senior Center

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a defensive driving class, Vehicle Accident Prevention, sponsored by Meridian Technology Center. This class could get you a discount on your vehicle insurance, so check it out with your insurance provider.

The class will take place Wednesday from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. An hour lunch break will be taken. Call or stop by to sign up.

On Monday at 10:30 a.m., Lois Jackson, a certified massage therapist, will be at the center to give hand and foot massages. No appointment is needed.

Senior participants’ July birthdays will be celebrated with a “Christmas in July” theme, potluck luncheon Friday at noon. Bring a food dish to compliment the entrée of turkey and dressing or pay $3/person.

The center offers many activities for seniors 50 and over. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a July calendar of events. The center is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday from 6-8:30 p.m. for music night.

It is not too late to get in the water aerobics class that meets every Tuesday and Thursday at the City Municipal Pool from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. This class will run through July 31 and only cost $2 each time you attend. Payment is made at the pool. Also, the Walk in the Park program has been popular. You can still participate and work on your health. After 10 walks in Couch Park, you earn a free T-shirt.

Monday: If you are looking for a place to get some exercise, try the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:30 a.m.  There is also women’s pool time. Bring your pool stick or use one from the center and join the fun. A painting/crafting class also meets. At 10:30 a.m., a group of line dancers practice. Lois Jackson will be at the center at 10:30 a.m. for massage therapy. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m.

Tuesday: Try something different by playing Wii bowling. This is a popular game played on a game system on Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Each player is in control of his own game by holding the hand controller. Water aerobics meets at the Stillwater Municipal pool at 12:30 p.m.

Wednesday: Time to exercise again. The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercisers join up at 9:30 a.m. along with the women pool players. Line dancing is at 10:30 a.m. In the afternoon, there are games of canasta, pool and snooker along with a 2 p.m. The movie for this week is an action thriller titled, “Non Stop.”

Thursday: Wii bowling is played Thursday at 9:30 a.m., and don’t forget water aerobics at the city pool at 12:30 p.m. Starting at 6 p.m., musicians will play.

Friday: An exercise class, women’s 8-ball and a painting/crafting class all begin at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., a line dancing class kicks up their heels. Preparations will be going on for the “Christmas in July” birthday potluck luncheon to start at noon. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person.

Dollie McClary won first place in social bridge and Janetta Loper was second. Al Perry and Lionel Raff won in duplicate bridge, while Lucy Robinson, Penny Sizemore, Gay Lynn and Marty Bullock tied for second. Jean Hatcher won in Wii bowling while Fred Seamans won the pool tournament.
