Income tax assistance comes to an end

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will offer free tax help by AARP trained preparers through Tuesday. Service is on a first- come, first-served basis from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Sign in when you arrive at the center.

Bring last year’s tax return if possible and all other necessary information and identification.

The center offers many activities for seniors 50 and over.

Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. for an April calendar of events.

Competitive game champions include duplicate bridge winners, Murna Raff and Seham El Sharif, first place, and Camille Johnston and Terry Miller, second place.

Vic Berryman won the men’s eight-ball pool tournament.

The Wii bowling game winners were Evelyn Smith, highest score, and Lee Arnswald, second highest score.

 Hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night.

Activity highlights this week include:

Monday: Women are encouraged to come join the pool players for some games of eight-ball every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. An art class also comes in during the same time. The income tax preparers also arrive by then ready to help until noon. Exercise equipment available for use include a treadmill, two exercise bikes and a weight set.

Tuesday: April 15 is the last chance to take advantage of the free income tax assistance offered at the center from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Check out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise program. The center provides this class every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. It offers a low impact, 45-minute workout which helps strengthen and tone up your muscles. Stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. In the afternoon, games include canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving. A men’s eight-ball pool tournament is scheduled at 1 p.m.

Wednesday: The women pool players practice their pool shots again beginning at 9:30 a.m.  Wii bowling is played on Wednesday morning at the same opening time. In the afternoon, games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, pool and snooker are played along with an afternoon movie, at 2 p.m. The movie for this week is “Frozen.”

Thursday: The free exercise class, Sit ‘n Be Fit, is offered at the Center at 9:30 a.m. Stay after class and join the line dancing group at 10:30 a.m.  In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. At 2 p.m. a game of bingo takes place.

Friday: Popular Friday morning activities are women’s pool playing and painting in the art class. These begin at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. and consist of canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool or snooker. Come join the fun.

  • Senior Center Watch 07-05-14

    The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a defensive driving class, Vehicle Accident Prevention, sponsored by Meridian Technology Center. This class could get you a discount on your vehicle insurance, so check it out with your insurance provider.
    The class will take place Wednesday from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. An hour lunch break will be taken. Call or stop by to sign up.
