Senior Center Watch 02-17-13

Highlights of this week’s activities at the city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center are free neck and shoulder massages, a pool tournament against Ponca City’s seniors and free income tax assistance.

 Paul Hirsch, a licensed massage therapist from Magic Touch, will provide massages 1 p.m. Thursday. No appointments are required.

Center pool players host Ponca City’s Senior Center pool players in an eight-ball pool tournament 10 a.m. Friday.

Come to the center to receive free income tax help. Trained AARP volunteer income tax preparers will provide services 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday until April 15. No appointments are necessary; it is a first come, first served basis. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification.

Stop by 1015 E. 12th to pick up a February calendar of events. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 to 8:30 p.m Thursday for music night. Call 405-747-8080 for more information on activities offered, including joining a social or duplicate bridge group.

A defensive driving class will be provided by Meridian Technology Center 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m March 25. This class could get you a discount on your insurance. Call for more information or come by to sign up.

Monday: Morning activities get started at 9:30 a.m. Tax help is  scheduled  9:30 a.m. to noon. Exercise equipment is available including a treadmill, weight set and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games.

Tuesday: Come loosen up with the free exercise class held at 9:30 to about 10:15 a.m. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes from 1 to 2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

Wednesday: Women pool players practice eight-ball strategies beginning at 9:30 a.m. A Wii interactive game set, pingpong table and exercise equipment are also available for use. Tax preparers work on taxes 9:30 a.m. to noon. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. The family dramatic movie, Amazing Racer will be shown at 2 p.m.

Thursday: Test endurance and flexibility in the free “Sit ‘n Be Fit” exercise class at 9:30 a.m. Paul Hirsch from Magic Touch Massages will provide free neck and shoulder massages on a first come, first served basis. At 2 p.m. bingo is called. Thursday evening at 5:30, the doors open back up for a night of music.

Friday: The painting group returns at 9:30 a.m. At 10 a.m., Stillwater senior pool players will host a pool tournament for Ponca City senior pool players for some friendly competition.  

Last week’s bridge winners were Wally Reynolds, first, and Barbara Geiser, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were Lionel Raff and Al Perry, first, and Penny Sizemore and Lucy Robinson, second.

The Texas Hold’em group met, and the winners for the week were Chestine Crane and Carol Cross.
