Senior Center Watch 11-10-13

Champions for competitive games held last week at the city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center were social bridge winners Jean Herndon, first, and Lynn Fent, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were Murna Raff and Betty Lowrey, first, and Al Perry and Lionel Raff, second. Jack Ventris won the men’s pool tournament. Paul Hirsch won the Texas Hold’em championship during the previous week.

Event highlights this week at the center include the Meridian Technology Center Safety Training Defensive Driving Class from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. An hour lunch break will be held during the program. Call 405-747-8080 for more information.

Health Back Home Health is conducting a balance clinic at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the center. Those participating will receive a balance check and exercises will be demonstrated which may improve balance. For more information about activities, stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. to pick up a calendar of events. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

A Veteran’s Affairs representative will no longer be coming to the center. He will now be at Workforce Oklahoma’s Stillwater office at 3006 E. Sixth St. from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

The center offers a variety of activities for seniors, 50 and older, to choose from including card games such as duplicate and social bridge, canasta, pitch, Texas Hold’em, and various others games like dominoes. Practice your shots on the pool and snooker tables. The friendly group can help you learn to play pool.

Another group gets creative sharing ideas about crafts and painting.

Win prizes playing bingo 2 p.m. and enjoy musical tunes every Thursday during music night.

A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

Get some exercise in the Tuesday and Thursday morning “Sit ‘n be Fit” class to improve strength and flexibility or work out on your own using the center’s exercise equipment including a treadmill, weight set and exercise bike.
