Senior Center Watch 09-15-13

Thursday is a big day at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center. The Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service will present “Journey through Health” at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The health program demonstrates how the dietary guidelines can have a powerful impact throughout the body. Later that afternoon, a men's pool tournament will start at 1 p.m. and an invitation to play is extended to all senior men. At 2 p.m., join in a game of canasta or bingo. Thursday evening the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of country music from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Other scheduled events include the coed pool tournament in Ponca City on Friday. The Stillwater seniors take on the Ponca City seniors at 1 p.m. Register now if you are interested in playing.

On Wednesday, the comedy movie, “Here Comes the Boom” will be shown at 2 p.m.

A Veteran's Affairs representative visits at 1-2:45 p.m. Tuesday to help with any questions or paperwork pertaining to veteran's assistance. No appointment is needed.

The center offers a variety of activities for seniors, 50 and older, to choose from including card games such as duplicate and social bridge, canasta, pitch, Texas Hold’em and various other games like dominoes. Practice your shots on the pool and snooker tables or get creative sharing ideas in the painting and craft group. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

Get some exercise in the Tuesday and Thursday morning Sit ‘n be Fit class or on your own using the center’s exercise equipment including a treadmill, weight set and exercise bike. Wii interactive games, line dancing and pingpong can get you moving, too.

Stop by 1015 E. 12th to pick up a September calendar of events. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. If you are interested in joining a social or duplicate bridge group, call 405-747-8080 or leave your name and number with a staff member.

Champions for various competitions last week were social bridge winners, Norma Burk, first, and Mary Thomas, second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were Lionel Raff and Al Perry, first, and Penny Sizemore and Lucy Robinson, second.

The Texas Hold’em cham-pions were Lula Mae Davis and Chestine Crane.
