Senior Center Watch 12-09-12

The city of Stillwater Senior Activity Center, 1015 E. 12th, celebrates December birthdays with a potluck luncheon at noon Friday. Come share the fellowship and delicious food. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3 per person. The center offers many fun activities to keep participants, age 50- and-over, busy. Stop by to pick up a December calendar of events. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday for music night. Call 405-747-8080 if you are interested in joining a social or duplicate bridge group or for further information about any activities offered.

Monday: The week gets started at 9:30 a.m. as the women get out their pool sticks for some lively games of eight ball. A painting group arrives about the same time. Afternoon activities start around 1 p.m. including bridge, canasta, pool, snooker, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

Tuesday: Get ready for the holidays and start exercising now by joining the free exercise class called  “Sit ‘n Be Fit” starting at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.  After exercise, some of the participants practice line around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and pingpong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as duplicate bridge, dominoes, canasta, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs visits from 1 to 2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

Wednesday: The wo-men pool players warm up their pool sticks again at 9:30 a.m. A Wii interactive game set and a pingpong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment which includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine are available, also. Afternoon games begin around 1 p.m. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The animated movie, “Brave” will be shown at 2 p.m.

Thursday: Exercisers get out the stretchy bands and hand weights again in the “Sit ‘n Be Fit” exercise class meeting at 9:30 a.m.  Also, a group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to the music. At 1 p.m. afternoon games such as canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving get started. At 2 p.m. bingo is called. Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music.

Friday: The pool balls fall and the women cheer as they enjoy their games of pool that begin at 9:30 a.m. A painting group also arrives at that time. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a pingpong table or Wii player. At noon the potluck birthday luncheon will begin. Afternoon games will be available.

Last week’s winners of bridge were Shirley Crockett, first, and Wally Reynolds, second. Duplicate bridge did not meet last week. Texas Hold’em champions for the week were Maxine Morgan and Lula Mae Davis. Wayne Vinson was the winner of the men’s pool tournament.
