STILLWATER, Okla. —
In need of a top two finish at the NCAA cross country regional even Friday morning in Springfield, Mo., the Oklahoma State women's team got just that — but barely.
The Cowgirls finished second by just one point over Minnesota — in turn earning a spot at the NCAA Championships Nov. 17 in Louisville, Ky.
OSU clocked two runners in the top 11 with Monika Juodeskaite finishing ninth in a time of 20:51.34, while Natalja Piliusina was 11th in a time of 21:00.03.
In the men's regional race, the Bedlam rivalry came down to a tie for first place. Top-ranked Oklahoma State and eighth-ranked Oklahoma each wracked up 45 team points with the top five runners for both teams finishing in the top 20.
Tulsa's Chris O'Hare won the regional meet, finishing 0.52 seconds ahead of OSU's Girma Mecheso who clocked a time of 30:26.39. OU's Patrick Casey came in third (30:28.61), followed by OSU's Tom Farrell (30:29.06) and Oklahoma's Kevin Williams (30:29.25).
