STILLWATER, Okla. —
The Oklahoma State Cowgirls set a school record for the best start at 12-0 after beating Texas Thursday in their Big 12 opener. The No. 11 ranked Cowgirls do not have time to enjoy it as OSU hosts West Virginia at 6 p.m. Saturday.
“There’s no time to celebrate,” Oklahoma State coach Jim Littell said. “It’s a quick turnaround.”
West Virginia comes into the Big 12 matchup at 12-1. The Mountaineers are also on a 12 game winning streak after losing to Ohio State in the opener. West Virginia beat Kansas Thursday night to start the Big 12 schedule off perfect.
“You’ve got probably the most athletic team in the conference coming here in West Virginia,” Littell said. “They’re very physical and very strong. They’ve got all the pieces to the puzzle and are very well coached.”
Mountaineer Asya Bussie leads West Virginia with 14.4 points a game and 8 rebounds.
West Virginia is a perfect 4-0 in games on the road.
Last year the Cowgirls split with the Mountaineers as each team lost their home game but won the road game.
The Cowgirls are perfect on the season but work still needs to be done before the season gets closer to the end.
“We have to execute a little bit better and we have to hold our turnovers down,” Littell said. “Just basic things rebouding, execution, taking care of the ball.”
Oklahoma State is just one of six teams that is still unbeaten this season.
The Cowgirls have not opened up with consecutive Big 12 victories since their 3-0 conference start in 2010.
Admission is free for the game and it will be televised on Fox Sports 1 at 6 p.m. Saturday.
