Updated: Pawnee splits first two games of Cushing Tournament

CUSHING, Okla. —

Thursday at the Cushing Tournament was the best of times and worst of times for the Pawnee Lady Black Bears as they fell to Drumright 7-0 and beat Agra 13-0.

Drumright put the game away early with three runs in the first and added four in the second. Pawnee coach Chad Tsotigh said his team made a few mistakes defensively.

"We had a play at first we didn't get and allowed runners to advance," Tsotigh said. "One thing lead to another and we were behind 3-0. I have to give them credit, their pitcher threw well and made it difficult for us to get hits."

Chrissie Collins took the loss. Though Pawnee didn't score it got a pair of hits from Hannah Burkett.

In their second game, the Lady Black Bears jumped out to the lead as Burkett led off with an inside-the-park home run. Pawnee scored three in the first followed by seven in the second and three in the third to secure a run-rule. Burkett went 3 for 3 and also earned the win, only giving up two hits. Tsotigh said they hit the ball well against a strong pitcher in Agra's Amber Austin.

"(Austin) was throwing well," Tsotigh said. "Our girls were confident. Tori Stevens and Haley Van Deventer made solid contact. In the third I was able to put in some pinch hitters."

Pawnee (1-1) continues play with Cushing at 6 p.m. and Pawhuska at 7:30 p.m.

Agra (0-2) opened the tournament with an 8-2 loss to Cushing. The Lady Tigers (3-0) finished the first day with an 11-1 victory over Perkins-Tryon. Agra plays Pawhuska at 6 p.m. and Depew at 7:30 p.m. Cushing finishes Friday with Morris at 7:30 p.m.
