BIXBY, Okla. —
The Stillwater High School boys’ quest to defend their Bixby Tournament title came to an end Friday with a 57-54 loss to Class 5A No. 1 Tulsa Edison.
“We were down by 10 at one point but the boys kept fighting,” Stillwater coach Michael Davis said. “They showed no quit. They just kept on fighting and we just came up a little bit short.”
Senior Rico Thompson scored 24 points to lead the Pioneers (3-1) while junior Brett Budke tallied 13 points.
Stillwater had a chance to tie the game, but Caleb Watkins’ 3-pointer at the buzzer was blocked by a Tulsa Edison defender.
With the loss, the Pioneers will face Springdale, Ark., in the third-place game at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Stillwater beat Springdale 56-50 in the championship of last year’s tournament.
