STILLWATER, Okla. —
Perkins-Tryon sophomore running back Jacob Peyton has ground out the tough yards all season, racking up a few 100-yard rushing games. Last Friday at the Bristow Pirates, Peyton was key in giving the ball back to the Demons as he recovered three fumbles in a 34-27 victory.
Peyton rushed for more than 100 yards in Week 2 against McLoud and two weeks ago against Prague. The sophomore tailback rushed for 49 yards and scored one touchdown against Bristow. This season, Peyton has rushed for 603 yards, which is second on the team to junior Tyler Taff who has 692.
Coach Lloyd Wertman said Peyton is one in his stable of running backs.
“We’ve had fullbacks rush for over 100 yards,” Wertman said. “We have quality running backs. Devin Peyton and Clark Crotty are our fullbacks. Tyler Taff and Jacob and Tanner Bridenstine are our tailbacks. Before he was injured, our quarterback Caleb White was a good rusher.”
White broke his collarbone in the first quarter against Bristow and will miss the rest of the season. Peyton and the Demons face their State Highway 33 rival, Cushing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Perkins.
