STILLWATER, Okla. —
Many who watched the Texas Tech-TCU game last week thought TCU's equipment manager needed to double knot coach Gary Patterson's shoes or get him velcro ones. Patterson wasn't having problems keeping his shoes tied, it was just a nervous habit. During Monday's media luncheon Oklahoma State University coach Mike Gundy shared his superstitions.
"I flip my switch on and off if I get tired of hearing (Todd) Monken cuss," Gundy joked. "Bill Young is so calm and it's peaceful for me. I flip it back and forth."
Some Oklahoma State players said they notice that Gundy has a stare during close games. The coach said he couldn't really comment about that because he hasn't watched himself but added he likes listening to his assistants on the headset.
"Maybe I'm thinking, wondering how I got here, how I'm going to get out of here and what I'm going to say. I'm not sure how that happens. ... I don't talk very much, I give very little input. I enjoy the comments, the coaching and the strategy. Just a different thing that is part of the game day experience."
