Former OSU lineman likely to land at Northeastern State

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — All signs point to former Oklahoma State University offensive lineman, Michael Bowie, joining Northeastern State when fall camp opens in the coming days.

A source told the Tahlequah Daily Press on Friday that Bowie was expected to enroll in classes at NSU on Monday. That would allow the former Sand Springs standout to join the RiverHawks before players are expected to report on Tuesday.

It was reported by the Tahlequah Daily Press on Wednesday that Bowie had visited the NSU campus, shortly after Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy announced that Bowie would be transferring prior to his senior season.

Then, on Friday afternoon, Bowie all but came out and announced his intention to join Northeastern State. On Twitter, Eric Galko of Optimum Scouting asked Bowie if he had finalized his transfer destination with Bowie responding with a “yes.” Galko then asked Bowie if he was going to Northeastern State, and Bowie said, “right on.”

Attempts by the Tahlequah Daily Press to contact Bowie to confirm his transfer destination have been unsuccessful.

However, it’s clear that NSU is one of two schools atop Bowie’s wish list. He sent his release to NSU and Central Oklahoma earlier in the week, which was confirmed by a NSU spokesman.

At UCO, Bowie would be reunited with his former coach at Navarro College, Nick Bobeck, who recently was named the head coach at Central Oklahoma.

But at NSU, Bowie would team up with former high school teammates, Johnny Deaton and Terrance Dixon.

If Bowie does in fact join the RiverHawks, it helps solidify the left tackle position, which — along with every other offensive line spot — was in question heading into the 2012 season. Bowie, while protecting Deaton and his blind side at quarterback, would anchor an offensive line that is projected to start several underclassmen, including Ross Dvorak at center.
