Several athletes represented on All-Area basketball teams

STILLWATER, Okla. — The 2012-13 basketball season saw great success for Stillwater-area high schools. Five teams advanced to the state tournament with the Glencoe Panthers winning Class A. The Stillwater Pioneers made it to regionals and the Lady Pioneers gave it their all in the area round. Here is a look at some of the top basketball players in the area.

Boys First Team

Ty Lazenby, Glencoe, sophomore

Lazenby was MVP at the state tournament and averaged 22.6 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game.

Jake Lazenby, Glencoe, junior

Lazenby established himself as an outside threat averaging 16 points, three rebounds and two assists per game and earned Class A State Tournament All-Tournament Team honors.

Eric Harris, Coyle, senior

Harris didn’t join the Bluejackets until after Christmas break but made a quick impact, averaging 12.6 points, 5.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 3.25 steals in 20 games played.

Nathan Brock, Pawnee, freshman

His season was cut short due to injury, but Brock helped the Black Bears reach the Area Round. Brock averaged 14 points, 4.4 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game.

Rico Thompson, Stillwater, senior

Thompson averaged 18 points and five assists during the regular season and boosted that average to 25 points in the post season.

Caleb White, Perkins-Tryon

Hunter Hall, Glencoe

Ryon Boatright, Mulhall-Orlando

Carson Teel, Stillwater

Kyle Smith, Pawnee

Girls First Team

Marissa Goodman, Frontier, junior

Goodman was the Lady Mustangs leading rebounder and scorer with 21.9 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

McKenzie Stanford, Perkins-Tryon, senior

Stanford was the other part of P-T’s inside 1-2 punch, averaging 13.6 points and seven rebounds per game.

Natalie Jensen, Pawnee, junior

Jensen helped the Lady Black Bears reach the area round and averaged 11.8 points, four rebounds, three assists, 1.3 steals.

Che’Ron Lewis, Cushing, senior

Helped the Lady Tigers reach the state semifinals. Averaged 17.7 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 3.4 assists per game.

Austyn Iven, Stillwater, senior

Iven averaged 15 points per game and finished sixth among Stillwater’s all-time scorers. Against Lawton Eisenhower, Iven scored 38 points — including 11 of 15 from the field.
