Stillwater Sports Minute: Josh Stewart continues to shine for Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. — After Saturday’s game against West Virginia, Oklahoma State sophomore receiver Josh Stewart said he was “busting” after hauling in a career-high 13 catches for 172 yards.

Monday Stewart’s smile grew even bigger after he was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.

“It means a lot,” Stewart said. “Anybody who gets that, it’s going to mean a lot to you. There’s all these great players in the Big 12 and you get tabbed one of the best performers of the week, it’s going to mean a lot to you. That game was pretty special. It was probably one of the best days of my life.”

Stewart may have had a career day Saturday, but Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Todd Monken says the recognition he received on Monday was long overdue.

“Those skill guys are all stat driven,” Monken said. “I think Josh has played well all year, it’s just that sometimes balls go your way more often and you have to make those kind of plays.”

The ball found Stewart more often than not on Saturday and chances are Stewart will continue to be a go-to guy for the Cowboys the remainder of the season.

Stewart has proven to be a dangerous weapon for the Cowboys, averaging 118 receiving yards the last four games. He said he hopes to continue that trend this week as the Cowboys take on Texas Tech.

“It’s all about doing what I can do for my team and doing the best I can do,” Stewart said. “You never know when a player can break out. Any of our receivers (could do it) because we got a good group of receivers. It could be any of us on any weekend. Saturday just happened to be my day. It’s just luck of the draw.”
