Stillwater boys, girls sweep long road trip to Lawton
STILLWATER — The Stillwater boys and girls basketball teams were all about taking care of business on a long road trip Tuesday night to Lawton Eisenhower.
The SHS boys, still playing with seven players due to injury, beat the Eagles 57-56 and the SHS girls got a double-double from LaNesha Middleton to top the Lady Eagles 53-45.

The Pioneers (6-11) won for the third time in the last five games, beating No. 14 Lawton Eisenhower, the second time this season SHS has upset a ranked Class 6A team.
“This is a huge win for us,” SHS boys coach Michael Davis said. “They’re a top-20 team and we need to get everything we can before the week’s over.”
Davis was referring to the state pairings being announced next week.
Jordan Pound led the way for the Pioneers with 22 points and 6 assists. Austin Brinker added 17 points and Josiah Woodard scored 10 points.
The Pioneers, who lost 70-63 to Eisenhower at the Putnam City Invitational back in early January, led through most of the game and held on late. Eisenhower hit a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left to cut the lead to a point, but had no time outs left to stop the clock.
“This is the kind of team we thought we’d have at the beginning of the season,” Davis said. “We’ve got four or five guys who could give us 10 points or more each night. When we get two or three of those to step up, it’s hard for people to guard us.”
SHS returns home on Friday to host Sand Springs at 8 p.m.

The Lady Pioneers (6-11) won for the second time in the last three games with one of their better offensive performances of the season.
Sophomore LaNesha Middleton led the way for Stillwater with 20 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double. Senior Ashby Wieligman hit a season-high three 3-pointers to score 11 points while Allison Smith chipped in 9 points and Austyn Iven had 8.
“We really executed the game plan and took care of the ball,” Stillwater coach Carl Treat said. “We only had 14 turnovers and we’ve been doing a really good job of limiting those the last five or six games. When we don’t turn the ball over we usually get a pretty good shot.”
Stillwater led 32-19 at the half and withstood several runs by Eisenhower (6-11) in the second half. The Lady Eagles trimmed the lead to 39-35 after three quarters and got as close and three points in the final period. But SHS was able to pull away at the end for the win.
Stillwater returns home to host Sand Springs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
