STILLWATER, Okla. —
Thanksgiving is a holiday about family, food and football. So it's no wonder that Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said it's his favorite holiday.
"Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday, because you get together as a family, you eat, there are football games on TV," Gundy said. "I love Christmas, but when you do gifts, it just takes up so much time that it messes it all up because there's so much going on. Thanksgiving, you just get together and enjoy each other and you eat.
"It's always been a special time for us. This year, it's going to be at our house. ... It's always been football and turkey."
The team was scheduled to practice early enough today to give players the chance to still celebrate the holiday.
For some lucky players, they are close enough to home that they are able to drive back to see family — such is the case for running back Joseph Randle, who is from Wichita, Kan.
"I'm only an hour and a half away, so I'll be able to go home," Randle said. "We'll practice, then I'll go home and eat dinner with my family and likely spend the night before coming back Friday morning. It'll be cousins, aunties and uncles. It'll be the whole shebang. It'll be fun."
For several of the players whom are further from home, the family is making the trip to Stillwater to spend Thanksgiving with them — such as it was for Josh Stewart, Torrance Carr and Desmond Roland, who are all from the Dallas area and will be spending the holiday together with family coming into town.
"My family is actually coming up here, so it'll still be just like Thanksgiving with family — everything is going to work out perfectly," Stewart said. "It'll be my family, Torrance Carr's family and Desmond Roland's family. It's going to be a good time."
