Stillwater Pioneers win three games at own Festival

STILLWATER —

Stillwater senior John Beckman scored five goals in three exhibition matches on Tuesday to lead the Pioneers to a 3-0 record in the Stillwater Festival at Pioneer Stadium.
Stillwater beat Tulsa Edison 3-0, Harrah 3-1 and Guthrie 3-1 in matches shortened in time for the festival.
“I was pleased with the way the team played,” SHS coach Seth Condley said. “We had a festival in Bartlesville on Saturday and we didn’t play bad, but I wanted to see us move the ball better. We improved a bunch, put the ball in the back of the net and we were dangerous on offense all three games.”
Beckman, David Herrmann and Lucas Hess each scored a goal in the first match for the Pioneers while Ty Dilley recorded the shutout in goal.
Beckman had two goals and Jose Grados one in the second match. Dilley was again in goal and got the win.
Beckman then scored twice and Grados once in the third match. Jake Hess started in net for the Pioneers against Guthrie.
“John’s one of our captains and it’s kind of what we expect for him,” said Condley of Beckman’s five goals. “He did what a senior captain should do.”
Both the Stillwater boys and girls soccer teams play one more exhibition festival on Saturday before starting regular-season play begins next week.
The SHS Lady Pioneers will travel to Bartlesville to take part in the Bartlesville Festival. The SHS Pioneers will host the Pioneer Festival with Cushing, Santa Fe South, Edmond Santa Fe and Bartlesville joining Stillwater.
Both the Lady Pioneers and Pioneers will then open the regular season at home on Tuesday, March 2 against Cascia Hall with the girls game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the boys game starting at 7:30 p.m.
