Area roundup: Pawnee boys, girls advance to state title games
OKLAHOMA CITY — Both the Pawnee boys and girls basketball teams are one win away from another state championship.
The Lady Black Bears defeated Washington, 64-45 in Friday’s semifinal at the State Fair Arena.
Pawnee led 19-10 after one quarter, but it was the Lady Bears’ defensive effort in the second quarter that put the game away. Pawnee held Washington to five points — all free throws.
In that quarter, Pawnee hit four three-pointers from three different players: Britney Morgan, Christina Morgan and Jayda Gardner as the Lady Black Bears took a 31-15 halftime lead.
Pawnee plays Dale today at 10:30 am. With the win, Pawnee can win its second-straight state championship.
Pawnee boys beat Watonga 71-61 in the semifinals. The Black Bears play Talihina at 9:15 p.m. With a win, Pawnee can win its third-consecutive state championship.
SHS Soccer wins
Both Stillwater soccer teams won matches at Heritage Hall tonight. The Lady Pioneers won the shootout 3-2 after ending regulation in a 1-1 tie. Stillwater is 2-1.
The Pioneers won 2-0 off goals by John Beckman and Jose Grados in the first half. Stillwater (1-2) held Heritage to 2 shots on goal
