STILLWATER, Okla. —
Fall camp opened for the reigning Big 12 Champion Oklahoma State football team Friday morning. And while they are the reigning champs, Day 1 of the 2012 season wasn't any different from the past few years when they were fighting to become the champs.
"Just trying to live up to the hype. We've got to come out and practice every day like we haven't won a Big 12 championship," defensive back Justin Gilbert said following Friday's practice. "That was last year and we've got to put it behind us.
"We have something to prove this year because we're ranked 19th in the country, so that means there are 18 other teams better than us in the country."
Of those 18 ahead of OSU in the USA Today Coaches' Poll, which was released Thursday, there are four teams (No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 11 West Virginia, No. 15 Texas, No. 17 TCU) that hale from the Big 12 Conference.
"Day 1 looked good," running back Joseph Randle said. "We've just got to continue to progress all the way through. ... We know we want to win a lot of games and we've got to take it day by day and get better each day."
