Agra boys get shot at redemption against Wetumka

AGRA, Okla. — The Agra boys basketball team will get a chance to avenge last weekend’s loss to Wetumka in the consolation finals of Class A regional tournament thanks to an 84-64 blowout of Oaks Friday.

The Bearcats (21-5) got off to a quick start, outscoring the Warriors 22-7 in the first quarter to set up the blowout.

“We opened up well and just ran with it after that,” Agra coach Chad Dickerson said.

Helping the rout of Oaks was a balanced attack by the Agra offense. The Wildcats had five players score in double figures and another two nearly reach that plateau. Garrett Jones led way with 16 points, followed by Dalton James with 15, Matt Reedy with 14, Blake Beard with 13 and Tyler Rossiter with 10. Jordan Walters added 9 for Agra, while Drake McEntire chipped in with 7 points.

“We played well this evening,” Dickerson said. “The boys have been working real hard every day.”

Agra will face Wetumka at 3 p.m. Saturday in the consolation finals for an opportunity to advance to the area tournament next weekend.

“It’s want-to right now,” Dickerson said. “We want to head to area, we want to have one more week at least.”

Morrison splits with

Pioneer-Pleasant Vale

WAUKOMIS — The Morrison Lady Wildcats advanced to the Class A District 2 championship against Alva following a 46-42 win over Pioneer-Pleasant Vale Friday.

While the Morrison girls season will continue, the Morrison boys’ season came to an end Friday with a 60-41 loss to Pioneer Pleasant Vale in Waukomis.

Yale boys beat Colcord

CHOUTEAU — The Yale High School boys basketball team overcame a slow start to beat Colcord 77-51 Friday in the Class 2A Distirct 2 semifinal.

“We came out flat and they were playing really well the first half,” Yale coach Rocky Kennedy said. “We made some adjustments at halftime and got into a little bit more of a rhythm the second half.”

Yale (20-4) will face Chouteau-Mazie in the district championship at 8 p.m. Saturday in Chouteau.

Warriors fall to Watonga

LUTHER — Caulden Greenfield scored 18 points and Garret Gosney added 11 but it wasn’t enough as the Ripley boys’ basketball season came to an end with a 47-43 loss to Watonga Friday.

“We just struggled all night,” Ripley coach Doug Scott said. “They hit some tough shots. We got close but we just couldn’t ever get over the hump.”

 Dexter Ladd and Noah Teel each added 5 points for the Warriors (16-10), while Houston Twoguns finished with 4 points.
