JENKS, Okla. —
The Stillwater High girls swim team won its second straight runner-up trophy at the Class 5A state swim meet Saturday in Jenks.
SHS finished second behind state champion Fort Gibson with a team total of 260 — well off the pace of the state champs, who scored 299.
The Lady Pioneers did get the best of Fort Gibson in the final event of the meet, however. With SHS and Fort Gibson the only real contenders for the 400 freestyle relay, Stillwater finished strong with a first-place time of 3:55.47 to give Stillwater two victories out of the 11 events.
The Lady Pioneers also opened strong with the 200 medley relay team of Sydney Goad, Brooke Njaa, Alex Thomas and Lauren Gattis winning a state championship with a time of 1:59.13 in the first event of the finals.
Thomas took third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.18 and was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.77.
Njaa got a top-five finish in the 200 individual medley by clocking a fourth-place time of 2:28.51. She also earned silver in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:14.72 to finish second.
Goad took third in the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:48.54 and was fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.58.
The group of Kelsey Haseley, Kayla Dunn, Lauren Gattis and Njaa took third in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:51.00.
