STILLWATER, Okla. —
Taylor Schippers remembers the months leading up to her signing with the Oklahoma State women’s basketball team.
The freshman from Houston, Texas, recalls the piles of letters with only a few from in-state schools and none from the University of Texas.
When the Cowgirls (13-7, 5-8 Big 12) take on the Longhorns (13-10, 3-8 Big 12) at 7 p.m. Saturday in Austin, Texas, Schippers hopes to make Texas remember her.
“Going back home is always fun,” Schippers said. “You want to beat them because it’s back in your home state. ... Texas didn’t recruit me, so when you go up against teams from your home state that didn’t recruit you, it makes you want to beat them that much more.”
A McDonald’s All-American at Concordia High School, Schippers’ season has been full of highs and lows.
“(Schippers) is going to be excited about playing there, but she’s had a nice year,” Littell said. “We’ve just basically played the one that’s been hot on any given night. The last couple games it’s been Jordan (Schultz) playing well against OU and Texas Tech, but against A&M I thought that Schippers won the ball game for us.”
Schippers said it doesn’t matter whether or not she starts or how much playing time she gets, as long as the team is winning. But in order for Oklahoma State to sweep Texas for the first time since 2007, Schippers and the other guards will have to slow down the Longhorns’ trio of Yvonne Anderson, Chassidy Fussell and Ashleigh Fontenette.
“We beat them by almost 20 here, and we have to bring that same intensity,” Schippers said. “Our goal is to make it to the NCAA, and a win at their place would be a huge step toward that goal.”
