Stillwater Sports Minute: Snyder still a legend in Gundy's eyes

STILLWATER, Okla. — From 1991 to 2002, Bill Snyder and the Kansas State Wildcats had Oklahoma State’s number, winning nine straight against the Pokes.

The tide has turned a little bit for the Cowboys under Mike Gundy, with Oklahoma State taking the last two from the Snyder-led Wildcats. But even so, Gundy said he hasn’t lost any respect for the coaching legend.

“I have a lot of respect for him for a variety of reasons,” Gundy said. “I’m told that he works a lot and doesn’t socialize a lot. ... He’s brought a lot to the table, and I think that he’s a great example of what strengths and what influences a coach can have on an organization for a team or school.”

Gundy said that without a doubt, he would love to tap into a little of Snyder’s magic Saturday when the Cowboys take on the third-ranked Wildcats.

“He did it once, which we can all agree could be arguably the greatest coaching job ever in college football history,” Gundy said. “He left and came back, and now he’s got them in position again. At times people can lose sight of how important an attitude and confidence instilled in an organization, work habits and a way of showing success can influence a program. I think he’s a great example of that.”
