PERRY, Okla. —
The Frontier Lady Mustangs will head to a familiar destination. With a 2-0 victory over Moss and 3-0 victory over Mason, the Lady Mustangs advance to the state softball tournament for the third consecutive season.
Freshman pitcher Michael Ann Nelson pitched two shutouts and only allowed two hits in the entire regional tournament.
“I’m extremely impressed,” coach Erron Kauk said. “She has overdone herself. She is never too high or too low. She never gets too rattled.”
Senior Jalissa Gum, who was cleared to play Monday, provided the Lady Mustangs’ offense with two home runs.
The Lady Mustangs find out their opponent on Monday.
The Perry Lady Maroons are making their first trip in school history to the state tournament with a 3-2 victory over Newkirk.
“I’m excited,” coach Bryan Hayes said. “We’ve had great teams before. We got great performances from not only our older girls but are younger girls.”
Perry needed a last-inning rally to defeat Newkirk. Trailing 2-1, senior Jayde Hansen led off with a double. Sophomore Mariah Ewy moved her to third and advanced to second on a throw. Sophomore Makayla Patton hit a walk-off single down the left field line to clinch it.
“We had a big party,” Hayes said. “We had a huge pile and took pictures.”
Perry advanced to the title game with a 7-0 victory over Chisholm.
