ENID, Okla. —
The Ripley High School girls basketball team’s season came to an end one win short of a berth in the state tournament with a 55-35 loss to Alva Monday at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center.
Kylie Ladd scored 16 points and Naomi Eslinger chipped in 11, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a sluggish first quarter as Alva outscored Ripley (28-3) by a score of 10-1.
“Their defense was really good and we missed some shots,” Ripley coach Doug Scott said. “We got behind and just couldn’t catch up. At the end, we kind of started pressing a little bit and we couldn’t get shots to fall in the fourth quarter.”
Alva held Jaclyn McKnight — one of Ripley’s leading scorers — to just one point, well below her double-digit season average.
“That definitely hurt us,” Scott said. “You have to give them credit. They knew that she could shoot the ball and they did a good job against her.”
