STILLWATER, Okla. —
It's been a year since Oklahoma State's Justin Gilbert became part of history.
In last year's contest with Texas, Gilbert returned the opening kickoff of the second half in Austin, Texas, back for a 100-yard touchdown return. It was his second return for a touchdown on the year, the first coming in the first quarter against Tulsa.
"I wouldn't say it was one of my favorite returns, but it was the one that helped my team out the most in the situation," Gilbert said.
Gilbert recalled that his teammates were talking about returning the kickoff for a touchdown, which ultimately gave OSU a 28-10 lead right out of halftime.
"Coming out of the huddle, everybody was talking about taking it back to the house," Gilbert said. "I didn't say anything, I was just shaking my head like yea we're going to do it. That's when I think I'm at my best — when I don't talk and am in my own zone."
The return was the fourth of Gilbert's career, tying Perrish Cox for the most in an OSU career.
Making the moment more memorable for those watching was Texas return specialist Fozzy Whittaker matched Gilbert on the ensuing kickoff with a 100-yard touchdown return of his own.
