Glencoe baseball wins district title

BARNSDALL, Okla. — The Glencoe Panthers held off a late rally by the Barnsdall Panthers to claim the Class 10 district championship with a 6-4 victory.

“Barnsdall competed hard,” coach Tony Cazzelle said. “Any time you go on the road it’s tough. We played pretty good.”

Glencoe took the lead in the bottom of the third with three runs. After Barnsdall scored a run in the fourth and fifth, the Panthers responded with two in the sixth. Barnsdall scored two more in the top of the sixth but Glencoe responded.

Senior Nathan Melton earned the victory with six strikeouts and helped his own cause with an RBI single. Claytin Beaver hit two doubles and drove in a run. Hunter Hall also hit a RBI double.

On Friday, Glencoe beat Rejoice Christian 9-3 and recorded 18 hits. Hall picked up the win to move to 5-0. In the second game, Glencoe came from behind to beat Barnsdall 7-4. Taylor Cavett started and pitched five innings. Melton earned the victory in relief and hit a home run and drove in two runs.

The Panthers (22-8) await to find out their regional destination and opponent on Monday.
