STILLWATER, Okla. —
In 2007, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy grabbed headlines with his “I’m a man, I’m 40” rant to defend then quarterback Bobby Reid. Saturday after LSU’s 41-35 victory, coach Les Miles went on his own rant talking about how hard his seniors worked.
“I've got to tell you something, I went to the field with 16 or 17 seniors, and every one's contributions to our team is noteworthy,” Miles said in his opening statement. Every one of them. There is not a guy on that list of men who hadn't had a great a career, who hadn't given tremendous effort and energy to his team. ... My point to you is, there is no such thing as a flop that takes the field for our football team.
“Just so you know, I'm proud of those men. How easy it could have been to say it was their (Ole Miss') night. Spectacular group of men. You go find them, throw your arms around them and you give them a big kiss on the mouth, if you are a girl.”
Gundy said he didn’t see the press conference on Saturday but his offensive coordinator Todd Monken did.
“(Monken) texted Les and said, ‘He enjoyed it ... Tell Mike he needs to watch it, he would be proud.’”
Gundy said he will watch it.
