Stillwater High graduates Atkins and Pendleton awarded Holt Memorial Scholarship

STILLWATER, Okla. — Without the Brad Holt Memorial Baseball Tournament the Brad Holt Memorial Scholarship wouldn’t be possible.

Forty three graduating Stillwater High School athletes have been selected since the scholarship fund was established in memory of Holt in 1992. The scholarship was given to one recipient, Bryan Adcock, the first year in the amount of $600. Since then it has grown to two scholarships, each in the amount of $1,000.

This year former basketball player Callie Atkins and former baseball player Will Pendleton were the recipients of the scholarship. Atkins said she feels honored to receive it.

“To be able to receive that is awesome for me because it means a lot to my family and to me,” Atkins said.

The community plays a big role in the success of the tournament which adds to the scholarship fund. Although the American Legion is not involved with the tournament this year, the Stillwater Dugout Club stepped up to keep the tradition going.

“I know that scholarship means a lot to everyone in the community and to athletes that are trying to go play at the next level.” Atkins said.

2009 recipient Korbin Kenmore agrees the scholarship has been meaningful to him.

“Receiving the Brad Holt scholarship meant so much more to me than just receiving a scholarship to help me get through college,” Kenmore said.

Kenmore views the scholarship recipients as a part of the Holt family. He said he was an honored to be part of that.

“I'm so thankful to have them in my life and couldn't be any happier about being a part of the Holt family that continues to grow each year that they choose to award the Brad Holt Scholarship to a young athlete that is striving to do better and continue on in their athletic career.”

In 2012 the scholarship went to Brooke Stokes and Megan Short; and Alex Holt and Hayley Frazier in 2011.
