TULSA, Okla. —
The Cushing Lady Tigers take an early lead and held off the Erick Lady Bearcats 43-36 in the first round of the Tulsa Tournament of Champions Saturday at Oral Roberts Mabee Center.
Cushing trailed 10-9 after the first quarter but outscored Erick 12-6 to take a 21-16 lead at halftime. The Lady Tigers expanded their lead in the third as they led 33-23. Erick rallied in the fourth as it outscored Cushing 13-10 but it wasn’t enough.
“We had several 10-point leads, especially in the second half,” coach Brad Crace said. “Erick was very disciplined but we were too much for them defensively. What also helped was we were 8 of 8 on free throws.”
Che’Ron Lewis led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 18 points. Cushing resumes play in the semifinals against East Central at 5:30 p.m. today.
