Stillwater High boys roll in East Central Classic opener

Perkins girls stomp Little Axe by 44 points.

ADA, Okla. — The No. 8 Stillwater Pioneers had no trouble with the Durant Braves, as everyone got minutes in an 85-45 victory in the first round of the East Central Classic.

“We came out and played the way we wanted to,” coach Michael Davis said. “We started quick and got after them and forced a lot of turnovers.”

The Pioneers had five players in double figures with Jared Dickey leading the team with 16. Stillwater had a strong performance from freshman Jordan Brown, who scored 14 points.

“Brown played strong,” Davis said. “I think he had a double-double. We need him to step up. He is third man in our rotation at post.”

The Pioneers play the winner of Ada and Sapulpa at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Glencoe 83, Maysville 33

EARLSBORO — The Panthers’ offense was too much for the Warriors in an 83-33 victory in the first round of the Earlsboro Tournament.

The Panthers had five players in double figures with Kagen Castlebury leading the team with 18.

Glencoe plays Vanoss in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m.

Yale 68, Newkirk 34

YALE — The Bulldogs had no problems with the Tigers, as they won 68-34 in the first round of the Walking F. Ranch Classic.

“Our kids played well,” coach Rocky Kennedy said. “We played together and defended well.”

Yale pulled out to an 18-8 lead after the first quarter and ran away with the game from there. Brady Eberhart led the team with 18 points. Shane Smith, Braxton Wade and Konner Fowler each scored 8 points.

The Bulldogs (7-1) face the winner of Preston and Liberty at 8:40 p.m. Friday.

Southwest Covenant 58, Frontier 50

MORRISON — The Mustangs played competitive but couldn’t pull out a victory against the Patriots in a 58-50 loss in the first round of the Mike Kerr Classic.

“We played pretty good for us,” coach Bob Weckstein said of his 2-12 team.

Landon Norman led the team in scoring with 23. Talon Harris followed with 17.

The Mustangs open play in the consolation bracket against Copan at 12:20 p.m. Friday.
